COMMUNITY PROJECT
9 September 2023 The PURE Community Project in 2023 will help support the village of Ait Ouamden in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. Ait Ouamden is a typical Berber village, a 45 minute drive from Marrakech. There are around 50 families living in the village, each reliant on the natural mountain resources to live and continue their work as farmers and goat and sheep breeders.
By taking part in the Community Project, you will be given the opportunity to directly support the villagers through one of four impactful activities. Please note that although we endeavour to allocate each participant their activity of preference, we need to ensure that each activity group has the right amount of people for maximum impact on the village.
Therefore, we cannot guarantee each delegate will be assigned their first choice of activity.
Football field fence installation – to improve the space where the teenagers practice various sports Building a bridge – to help villagers get to their fields during the winter School painting – to improve the pre-elementary school environment that 24 children attend Women's centre construction – to help finish the building of an educational/multi-functional centre for the women of the village
The morning will also include the chance to interact with the local people and a traditional Berber breakfast. Transport to and from the village will be provided. Be prepared for a day outside with some physical activity, depending on which activity you are allocated to.
